Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is the discomfort of the shoulders in which the muscles, ligaments, joints, and tendons become strained. Because the shoulders are used often, it’s easy to experience some type of shoulder pain or even a deeper shoulder injury. If you feel discomfort due to shoulder pain, contact our chiropractor at Wellness Chiropractic Center in Watertown for shoulder pain relief.

Shoulder Pain

What Causes Shoulder Pain?

A person might experience shoulder pain after lifting heavy items, painting, playing golf, or even doing desk work. Anything which requires arm movement, is at risk for shoulder pain. While the shoulders might seem durable, the shoulders are quite fragile and tend to experience pain quite often.

The arm’s joint socket is quite shallow, which allows for much of the area’s motion. Comprised of four muscles which surround the arm bone, the cuff keeps the shoulder steady throughout movement. The area’s supraspinatus muscle, which exists on the shoulder’s top, travels under the shoulders outside bone which is called the acromion. Because of this tendon’s position, it’s exposed to a lot of stress. It can become inflamed, swollen, sprained, strained, and sore over time. It can become pinched between the area’s two bones as well.

Determining Shoulder Pain

While everyone can experience a little pain here and there, some types of shoulder pain may be caused by certain injuries, which are a little more serious. People can experience angina, bursitis, dislocated shoulder, swimmer’s shoulder, or rotator cuff injury, all of which can bring shoulder pain. Shoulder pain can extend into the night, making the discomfort bad enough to wake a person up consistently.
